Landmark lighting may remain limited
On 7 August, the Hungarian government ended its request for voluntary electricity savings and said decorative lighting could be switched back on. Budapest, however, has decided to maintain several of its own energy-saving measures for the time being, including the suspension of energy-intensive landmark lighting, as the Danube is expected to fall again. This means that Parliament, bridges and other major buildings may still look different after dark. Airport taxi dispute continues
Our 5 August update reported that the airport’s new taxi access rules remained in force. They have still not been changed, and another traffic jam was reported at the terminal on 6 August. The taxi association continues to seek an agreement with Budapest Airport, with another meeting expected in September, but no settlement has yet been announced. Taxis are operating, although passengers travelling to a departing flight should allow extra time during busy periods.
